For those of you who have been reading my blog since November or earlier, you may remember this post. (If not, catch up here). Even though it's been six months since my great-grandmother died, I didn't want to forget this very special part of my wedding day.

"After getting ready at what I considered "home" for the last time, all the girls and I piled into my parents' van and headed 3 miles down the road to the retirement home where my great grandmother has lived for about 8 of the past 11 years.
She lived in a room on her own with minimal help for daily tasks and scooted around every where she needed to go in her wheelchair when her legs couldn't support her any more.
On the morning of my wedding day, we approached the entrance with a mason jar filled with a few of the extra flowers from our DIY flowers the day before.

She was waiting for us in the downstairs lobby, with an expression I'll treasure forever: pure excitement.
She was overjoyed we took the time out of the busy day to see her when she didn't have the energy to make it to the wedding.

after one last kiss, we headed back to the van so we could get to our first look.
I had created a blurb photo album for my grandmother with these photos as well as some family photos after my mom emailed me about her latest down turn. Unfortunately, she never got to enjoy the pictrues, as the album arrived at my parents on the day of her funeral. Now it sits on my mom's nightstand as a remembrance of her grandmother, for whom she (my mom) was the primary caregiver for nearly a decade.
I'm so glad I have these moments captured on film as well as many memories in my heart!

I loved this post the first time you posted it! Thanks for sharing it again! Sorry again for your loss!
ReplyDeleteThis brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing something that is obviously incredibly near and dear to your heart. You'll cherish these photos for many many years to come :) So sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember reading it the first time.... I'm sitting here tearing up being slightly jealous as she got to be a part of your day, but didn't make it to mine. She is so missed!! I'm so happy for you though that you have those memories. So precious!
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I'm crying over here. That was beautifully written and seeing the joy in her face was simply priceless. A photo really does say 1,000 words.
ReplyDeletethis is one of the most beautiful things I have seen in a long time thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is the sweetest thing I have ever seen! I'm so sorry for your loss. My great grandmother recently passed, and sadly will miss our wedding (coming up in 2 weeks). I know she will be there in spirit, and ironically her passing opened the door for me to invite my father and his side of the family who I have not spoken to in almost 10 years. Best wishes, gorgeous photos, thank you for sharing them and your story! It was so touching!
ReplyDeleteThis was incredibly amazingly sweet. I love that you went to see your Great Grandmother that day.
ReplyDeleteThese are those most precious photos. We just lost my husband's great grandma last week, and we treasure the photos of her at our wedding. I know from having lost both of my great grandmas just a few years ago how hard it is to say goodbye. My sympathies for your loss, but I'm ohsoglad for you that you have these wonderful photos to remind you of her love.
